Margarita Carreras reaches into a vortex of swirling forces of Nature to create her unique reverse-painted glass collections of functional art. Each piece is a soulful journey of discovery, a collusion of the artist and her medium. From Carreras’s journal: “I caress you with my hands and smooth your rough edges. I dilute you, blending others into you. I strip you and at times I scratch your surface. My body pulls and stretches you beyond your point of stagnation. Our time is short. I let you go. The magic of your soul is ready to fill someone else. I am complete.”
A journey of movement and color bursts from each one-of-a-kind piece. Carreras fabricated this organic process of reverse painting on glass using non-toxic acrylics, gold leaf, and other media. Each piece is hand painted by the artist using sponges and her bare hands. Her canvas is glass and the finished piece is covered with rice paper and layers of protective glaze, which form the underside of the glass creation. The Carreras collection includes boxes; round, square, and rectangular platters; and bowls of varying dimensions.
Margarita Carreras pieces are functional art forms, made with non-toxic paints and glazes, so they are safe to use with food.
