John Lavin is relatively new to the Rhinebeck area having come from Seattle about two years ago. His ceramic artwork has been shown in the Pacific Northwest for five years and at Gazen Gallery in Rhinebeck, NY for eighteen months. His artwork can be found today at A Collectors Eye in Hudson, NY. John has also been a participating artist with the Uninvitables, an abstract artist group that has shown a number of times in Millbrook, NY.
John has been creating ceramic art for more than twelve years and received his training from Christopher Mathie, an accomplished artist in Washington State. His pottery style is unique and very diverse and always enjoyable to view. Using both Raku and electric kiln techniques John creates unusual thrown and hand built art pieces that are often embellished by the addition of wood, glass, jade and shells. His latest project, Stuccoville City, has been a big hit and is on display at his studio overlooking the Catskills.
